Former Red Wings Defenseman Announces Retirement

It was a big deal for Jordan Oesterle when he was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Detroit Red Wings in the summer of 2021. Born in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, he got the chance to play for his hometown team for two seasons. This week, Oesterle, 34, decided to call it quits on his hockey career. He announced his retirement. “After 12 years of professional hockey, it’s time to close this chapter,” Oesterle posted on his LinkedIn account. “Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful for a career that took me further than I ever imagined. “From signing as an undrafted free agent to playing for seven incredible organizations, every opportunity, challenge, and relationship helped shape who I am today.” As well as the Red Wings, Oesterle also played for the Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, and Nashville Predators. “Wearing each jersey was an honor,” Oesterle said. “I’m especially grateful to every teammate, coach, equipment manager, athletic trainer, and staff member I had the privilege of working alongside. The friendships, lessons, and memories we’ve shared will stay with me for the rest of my life.” Oesterle played for the Red Wings from 2021 to 2023 Oesterle played his college hockey at Western Michigan. He was with the Red Wings from 2021 to 2023. In 97 games wearing the Winged Wheel, Oesterle accounted for 4-15-19 totals. “Professional hockey gave me far more than a career,” Oesterle said. “It taught me resilience, discipline, teamwork, accountability, and how to embrace adversity—lessons I’ll carry into the next chapter of my life.
